Christopher Davis

I am an experienced counsellor and psychotherapist and I have been in private practice in Leicester and Leicestershire for twelve years. My therapeutic approach is relational and humanistic. I have trained within a number of theoretical models - Psychodynamic, Person Centered, Gestalt and Transactional Analysis and I hold formal qualifications in Transactional Analysis, Psychodynamic Counselling and Neuro Linguistics. I describe my approach as integrative. In addition I am endorsed as a Provisional Teaching and Supervising Transactional Analyst and offer accredited psychotherapy training and clinical supervision.

My background is in scientific research and education, including special needs and counsellor training. I have been formerly employed as a student counsellor in FE and HE. I have twelve years experience as a private practitioner working with a wide range of presenting issues which my clients bring to therapy. These include anxiety and depression, relationship difficulties with family members or workmates, unfinished business from childhood, bereavement and loss, and difficulties managing food and sleep. I also work with people who make use of therapy as part of their personal and professional development. My current interests are in relational analysis and bodywork psychotherapy. I have particular interest in language and linguistics and issues associated with sensory impairment.

My style of working is contractual - both you and I make clear agreements about what it is within our relationship that will lead us to a well defined outcome. I have regular supervision of my work and continue my personal therapy as a part of my professional development. I am registered with the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy and I am a member of a number of professional associations in Britain and Europe, and adhere to their codes of ethics.

Emma Mansley

Our childhood experiences provide us with a template for life and influence the way that we view ourselves, others and the world in general. Sometimes this template works well and allows us, as adults, to feel good about ourselves, be successful and have healthy, fulfilling relationships. Sometimes however, the template is restrictive and limits our ability to make the most from life. Many issues ranging from anxiety, stress, depression, relationship difficulties and confidence or self-esteem issues can be traced back to the template we made in childhood.

Working with a Transactional Analysis counsellor can help you to bring your childhood template into awareness and make the changes necessary to promote your satisfaction with life.

Transactional Analysis also provides a model for understanding relationships, the ways in which we communicate with each other and the problems we can encounter in relating to others. I am very keen to work with couples who are experiencing difficulties and are interested in gaining a deeper understanding of their relationship in order to find greater satisfaction with each other.

I am an experienced TA counsellor, accredited by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). I offer a caring and respectful relationship in which you can explore your difficulties in a safe, non-judgmental environment.

Susan Byrne

I am an experienced counsellor/psychotherapist, who is an accredited member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy and abides by their code of ethics.
I work with both individuals and couples - of all ages - on problems of identity, relationships and bereavement and loss. Unresolved issues from the past can hinder people from living fulfilling lives in the present; exploring these roots can liberate energy for living.
Each individual is unique, but our common humanity means that similar problems arise in many lives. An impartial, attentive listener can help you gain perspective and a stronger sense of who you (uniquely) are; the resulting change may enable a different - more fulfilling - way of being in the world.
If you feel isolated, sense you're not making the most of your life, the therapy I offer may help you.
If you have received a medical diagnosis (e.g.manic depressive / bi-polar), I would be interested in working with you. All my work with such clients to date has shown that a LABEL can become a self-fulfilling prophecy - until some perspective is gained through counselling.

Janet Butterworth

I am a qualified practitioner offering both brief focused and longer term counselling. As a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy, a regulating and professional body, I adhere to the comprehensive code of Ethics and Good Practice, placing great value on each person's individuality and life circumstances.

At times many of us find aspects of our lives overwhelming. A common misconception is that seeking counselling might be a sign of weakness, but it is often found to be the reverse. People come to counselling for many different reasons and it takes great courage to work at understanding issues that are concerning you. A relationship of mutual trust and respect with your counsellor is at the heart of effective work, so it is important you find someone with whom you feel a comfortable connection. Talking as openly as you can, in a confidential setting to someone who is trained to listen sensitively; who is impartial and will not judge you, can help to clarify past and present experiences that make your life feel difficult.

Gilly Ball

I am a BACP senior accredited Counsellor/Psychotherapist and I have been practicing in Leicester since 1996. I have a Postgraduate Diploma in Psychodynamic Counselling , and a Certificate in Psychodynamic Perspectives (South Trent NHS).

My therapeutic approach is Contemporary Psychodynamic, which means I focus on the interplay between the emotions which we experience and our external circumstances. Feelings of distress in the present are often more intense due to relationships and events in the past. Understanding whether these have an effect upon present difficulties can bring relief. It also makes possible a wider range of choices based on a deeper appreciation of who we are and how we relate to others. The extent to which past dynamics affects the ability to function effectively in the present varies from person to person, and our work together will reflect this. The purpose of the therapy is to enhance the client’s experience of his/herself and others in the here and now.

I have worked in educational settings, the National Health Service and the voluntary sector. I have experience of working with all age groups, from students to the elderly and those who care for them. People approach me with concerns including anxiety, depression, isolation, relationship difficulties, trauma and bereavement, and with problems of eating and sleeping patterns. I also address matters of organisational dynamics and other work-related issues. My other area of interest is cultural identity and the tensions involved in cross-cultural relationships in personal and working life.

I offer both short-term focal counselling and longer-term psychotherapy. I can also offer Supervision and further training in Contemporary Psychodynamic practice, which I provide on an individual or group basis.

All of my work is governed by the code of ethics of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists, of which I am a registered practitioner.

Jo de Vries

I am a Psychosexual and Relationship Therapist that is Accredited by the BACP practising both on a long or short term basis with couples or individuals of any sexual orientation.
My work is integrative employing CBT, Psychodynamic and Systemic theories in the main. The sessions are very much geared to the client, and the best approach is given to meet the needs and issues that are presented by them.
All sessions are undertaken in a safe, secure environment, and are bound by the codes of ethics from both the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy and the British Association of Sexual and Relationship Therapy.

Sexual issues may include dysfunctions, addictions and compulsive thoughts, phobias and loss of desire. There may also be sexual identity queries and successful work has been carried out with transsexual and transgender clients. Gay affirmative practice is always employed.

Depression and anxiety, grief and loss, self-esteem and trauma can be explored and meanings of processed with clients empowering them to move on. This helps them to understand who they are and the choices they have in their lives. Changes can be made behaviourally, cognitively (how we think) and emotionally.

The relationships the client has with themselves and others can become healthier, communication skills and lifestyles are taken into account.
