Counselling provides a safe, confidential and non-judgmental space where you can explore anything that is affecting you. I will aim to help you resolve your difficulties or find ways of coping with them. Talking things through and actually hearing yourself say the words helps you to gain a better understanding of yourself so you can make more sense of your life; you can then make small adjustments to effect significant change.
I initially trained as a person-centred counsellor and later took a PG Dip in Psychodynamic counselling and use these and other approaches to inform the way that I work, depending on your needs and what will be most effective for you. The relationship between therapist and client is important and reflects how attachments, relationships and events in the past have shaped you and how they affect the way you manage relationships and life in general today.
I have nearly 25 years of experience as a counsellor, both in the UK and abroad. I have worked in the voluntary and private sectors for many years and also with companies seeking counselling for their staff (EAP). I counselled staff and students at the University of Leicester for 8 years and have been the Director of two local counselling organisations for the past 11 years (3 and 8 years respectively). I also hold a PG Certificate in Supervision and am an accredited and registered member of the BACP.
